    Another excellent review Rob.

I have this book on my shelf & I agree that is extremely good – the perfect place to start if you are interested in the Spanish Civil War. I’ve read the Elite volume on the International Brigades & that is good too. I can’t speak for the other volumes.

I’d also agree that Beevor’s (non-Osprey) book is probably the definitive work for those who want to delve a bit deeper than the short Osprey format allows. But for those with just a passing interest the Turnbull volume is the one for you.

On the subject of figures I again agree with Rob that Peter Pig’s 15mm range is where it’s at. But Pendraken’s 10mm range is also very good if you like that scale. Personally I think 10mm is the perfect size for wargaming and I am getting together a WWII 10mm collection from Pendraken that is just supurb. I have thousands of 15mm figures for all sorts of periods, so that’s my main focus but if I were starting out in the hobby I think I would go for 10mm – the perfect compromise between seeing the figures & detail and fitting lots of models on the table.

Anyway, I also wanted to mention a company called BUM (no, really). They are spanish and produce plastic 20mm figures for the civil war. I don’t know what the quality is like but you can check them out on Plasticsoldierreview.com which is a super site which reviews 20mm plastic figures. So maybe no need for conversions.

Don’t forget that the popular A Very British Civil War ‘period’ is just the Spanish Civil War with Union flags on so if you’re interested in AVBCW then you can do worse than reading the Turnbull book reviewed here by Rob.

And finally….check out World Aflame by Paul something or other by Osprey – one of their new wargames rules books. It’s for fighting inter (world) war battles and is obviously very useful for the Spanish Civil War. I got it from the library & thought it was good on providing that slightly chaotic, amatuerish character of the civil war ; I even stole some ideas from it.

Thanks again Rob for another first class review.
