Review of ‘The French Army 1914-18’ (Osprey)

With this year’s 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War I, Rob Morgan has been working on some Osprey reviews of books related to that conflict. Here’s the first of his WWI reviews, of the Osprey titled “The French Army 1914-18.”

It’s on the Ospreys at a Glance page.

Osprey eventually expanded their coverage of the British Army – it was first covered sa 1914-18 in MAA81, but since then they’ve added 3 more volumes MAA 391, 402, 406.

They have done a similar thing with the German Army, originally a single volume, which probably means there’s at least 3 French volumes in the pipeline!

Thanks for reviewing this book. It is an odd coincidence since the genesis of the Ospreys at a Glance series stemmed from this very book; I was about to paint a WWI French army and someone had stolen this book from the library. I found a copy online but it was pricey and I thought – wouldn’t it be good to have an idea of what it contained before I pay for it.

So thanks – finally I know!
